Wang Yi Meets with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken – Xinhua English.news.cn
Xinhua News Agency, Jakarta, July 13 (Reporter Yu Qianliang Wang Aona) On July 13 local time, Director of the Central Foreign Affairs Office Wang Yi met with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Jakarta at request.
Wang Yi said that when Mr. Secretary of State visited China last month, President Xi Jinping put forward important strategic and guiding opinions on stabilizing and developing China-US relations. Through in-depth and candid communication, the two sides have reached some consensus. The most important one is to return to the Bali agenda and take an important step towards calibrating the course of the giant ship of Sino-US relations. The key to the next step is to take practical actions to bring the relationship between the two countries back on the right track. The United States needs to reflect on the crux of the serious difficulties that have caused Sino-US relations to fall into serious difficulties. It needs to truly translate the consensus reached by the two heads of state in Bali into concrete actions, and it needs to implement the series of promises made by President Biden many times.
Wang Yi said that the two sides should start with specific issues, resolutely stop the “grey rhino”, properly handle the “black swan”, and completely remove the “blockers”, so as to accumulate conditions and eliminate interference for the stability of Sino-US relations. The U.S. should adopt a rational and pragmatic attitude, meet China halfway, advance consultations on the guiding principles of Sino-U.S. relations, expand diplomatic and security communication channels, improve communication effectiveness, and smooth people-to-people and cultural exchanges.
Wang Yi expounded China’s solemn position on the Taiwan issue, demanding that the U.S. side refrain from wantonly interfering in China’s internal affairs, refrain from compromising China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, stop suppressing China’s economy, trade and technology, and lift illegal and unreasonable sanctions once morest China. As major countries with important influence, China and the United States should respect the efforts of regional countries, support the centrality of ASEAN, and avoid introducing disputes and complicated factors into regional cooperation.
The two sides also conducted active discussions on launching consultations on Asia-Pacific and maritime affairs. They believed that the meeting was frank, pragmatic and constructive, and agreed to continue to maintain communication.
