High expectations: can the SPD not keep their election promises? | Regional

Saarbrucken – Change of government in the Saar! On April 25, Anke Rehlinger (46, SPD) is officially elected Prime Minister of Saarland. But the expectations of the politician are high. At least that’s what Uwe Jun (59) thinks.

The political scientist sees the Saarland facing major challenges that need to be overcome. “It will not be an easy task to always be able to meet these high expectations.”

In his opinion, not every election promise made by the SPD can be implemented one-to-one. Because there are also restrictions imposed by the federal government or company decisions on which politicians have limited influence. It takes patience and persuasion.

And: In the new state parliament, the SPD will meet two opposition parties “who first have to find each other”. In the case of the CDU, the course in terms of content and personnel is still unclear. The AfD has been trying to find itself for years without succeeding.

After all, the two parties would act completely independently of each other. “First of all, that’s an advantage for the SPD, because they don’t have a real opposition block against them, just two parties that act as individual organizations.”
