(Central News Agency reporter Zeng Yining, Taipei, 18th) Publicly funded influenza vaccines started on the 2nd, but it was reported that some people refused to take the high-end vaccine. The CDC said today that regarding 2.263 million doses have been vaccinated so far, an increase of 136,000 doses compared with the same period last year. Among the brands, Guoguang has the highest vaccination rate, Sanofi has the lowest, and high-end ranks third.

Publicly funded influenza vaccines began on October 2 this year. Zeng Shuhui, spokesperson for the Department of Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health and Welfare, said in a joint interview with the media today that as of yesterday, 2,262,865 doses of publicly funded influenza vaccines had been used; the cumulative number of vaccinations during the same period last year was 2,126,457 doses. The total number of doses administered this year increased by 136,408 compared with last year.

Zeng Shuhui explained that in previous years, public-funded influenza vaccines were most effective in the weeks before vaccination, and this year also showed the same trend. Although the National Day holiday this year is longer than last year, so the number of vaccinations during the holidays is lower, the overall vaccination progress is not slower.

Zeng Shuhui pointed out that among the vaccines distributed by various factories, the proportion of vaccinated people was Guoguang Biotech 60%, Toyo Pharmaceutical 59%, High-end Vaccine 48% and Sanofi 47%; and more than 4,000 contract institutes across the country have obtained vaccine manufacturers. The Health Bureau also allocates appropriately, and there is no shortage of vaccines.

According to the CDC, the purchased quantities and proportions of the four publicly funded influenza vaccine brands are: 3.493450 doses from Guoguang Biotech (accounting for 50%), 1.921400 doses from Sanofi (accounting for 27.5%), and 1.921400 doses from Taiwan Toyo. There were 864,630 doses from pharmaceutical industry companies (accounting for 12.4%), and 707,420 doses from high-end vaccine and biologics companies (accounting for 10.1%). As of yesterday, more than 4.01 million doses had been distributed, and they were distributed to various counties and cities according to the procurement ratio of each brand.

Wang Fude, chairman of the Taiwan Society of Infectious Diseases, said yesterday at a CDC epidemic press conference that hospital clinic statistics in the past showed that nine out of ten severe influenza cases did not receive the seasonal influenza vaccine; and influenza vaccines have been developed for many years. It is a very safe vaccine. In recent years, serious side effects of influenza vaccines have rarely been reported.

Wang Fude pointed out that influenza viruses are prone to mutation, and the circulating virus strains will be slightly different every year; and even if the virus does not mutate, the protective effect of the vaccine will decrease 4 to 6 months following vaccination, so it is recommended to be vaccinated every year.

In the second phase of the publicly funded influenza vaccine, starting from November 1, vaccination will be open to people aged 50 to 64 without high-risk chronic diseases. Wang Fude explained that although this group of people is not at high risk of death from severe illness, they can still get the flu and may infect the elderly at home with low immunity. Getting vaccinated can protect yourself and those around you. (Editor: Li Hengshan) 1121018
