High early turnout in runoff for US Senate seat in Georgia

Dec 02 (Archyde.com) – In the runoff election in the US state of Georgia for a still open Senate seat, a high turnout was evident at the end of the preliminary voting phase. As of Friday morning, at least 1.47 million citizens had pre-cast their ballots in person or by mail, Republican Secretary of the Interior Brad Raffensperger said. This corresponds to 37 percent of the total votes in the regular midterm election on November 8th.

The runoff election will take place on Tuesday. It faces Democratic incumbent Raphael Warnock and Republican challenger Herschel Walker. Should Warnock defend his seat, President Joe Biden’s Democrats would command 51 of the 100 seats in the Senate. Should he lose, the stalemate in the Chamber of Congress would apply, as before, with Vice President Kamala Harris casting the deciding vote.
