Kochi: Relief for actor Unni Mukundan in the case of insulting women. The High Court stayed the further proceedings in the case. Action was taken on Unni Mukundan’s petition to quash the case. Unni Mukundan informed the court that he had settled with the complainant. Justice K Babu’s bench stayed further proceedings in the case.
In 2017, when she came to meet Unni Mukundan for a movie discussion, the woman from Kottayam complained that he misbehaved with the aim of sexually assaulting and insulting women. In the case, the Ernakulam Judicial First Class Magistrate Court had recorded the confidential statement of the complainant. While the trial was in progress, Unni Mukundan approached the High Court to quash the case.
On May 7, 2021, the High Court stayed the trial proceedings for 2 months after the actor’s lawyer explained that the complainant had informed that she was not interested in proceeding with the case. Later, the actor’s lawyer announced that the case was settled on August 22, 2022. The stay was extended on that day by stating that the case will be considered after the Onam holiday for further action. The stay was later extended several times.
Then, when the case came up again in February this year, the actor’s plea to quash the case was rejected last month on the basis that the complainant informed that she had not signed the settlement agreement and that the document was fake. The further proceedings of the case have been stayed again after informing that the settlement has been reached with the complainant.
