Kochi: The High Court has asked to check all the details of the project to install AI cameras on the roads of the state. The bench headed by Chief Justice SV Bhatti directed that the exchequer should check whether there was any loss or additional liability and till then the government should not pay for the project.

The court heard a public interest petition filed by opposition leader VD Satheesan and former opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala alleging that the tender for installing the AI camera violated the conditions. The demands in the petition are that the contracts between the Department of Motor Vehicles and Keltron should be canceled and SRIT should be declared ineligible for tender. The court observed that prima facie the PIL appears to have merit.

The court said that the case will be considered following three weeks. By then, the court directed the petitioners to submit their affidavits.
