Hideo Kojima wanted to fight a solid metal boss for two weeks
Hideo Kojima’s new podcast isn’t for everyoneFortunately, this isn’t the only place we can turn to for development stories from the games he’s worked on. Like this the idea is too boring to Metal Gear Solid 3.
The last episode of Do you know games?– only seen by original The Snake actor David Hayter – deals fully with content that was cut from the series, drawing on information released in old interviews (great love for quotes from Furthermore it) and books. There are things regarding weapons that were really crazy, elements of the story that never really worked, and clips of gameplay that were cut and then turned into cinematic scenes.
However, the funniest and most interesting part of the video is the one regarding the boss fight for which it was planned. Metal Gear Solid 3I got into the test and it ended so badly that the developers started Shame on Kojima for this. Here’s the story by Kotaku AU:
Telling the story during production Metal Gear Solid 3Kojima fell in love with Stephen Hunter’s work master sniper And Impact point, was regarding two snipers embedded in the mountains, gradually trying to snatch each other. Kojima’s idea was that Snake’s boss fight with The End would be as close as possible to a real sniper fight, taking place over the course of two weeks in real time. The player will have to use their surroundings to stay hidden and quiet, searching for clues in a huge area to determine where The End is hiding, and once located, prepare the perfect shot. Once once more, it will end Two weeks in practice.
The crazy thing is that this boss fight has already reached the prototype stage. It was, at one point, a real part of a playable build. However, when it came time to examine the battle, no one who played it was able to find any trace of the old man. Many players spent hours searching for The End and found nothing, hindering their progress in the game. The team found the fight so boring that they began booing Kojima, convincing him to drop the idea altogether.
I want to believe that this is the whole experience of working with Kojima, summed up in one anecdote. You can watch the full video below; Maybe you already know some of it, or maybe, like me, you hardly know any of it and it’s 42 minutes of really interesting stuff!
