Hidden drugs seized in sardine cans

The alleged drug load was carried in a gift box.

The Bolivarian National Guard (GNB) captured a 27-year-old man following verifying that he had an alleged shipment of drugs, which he hid in several sardine cans.

The incident occurred on the Lara-Trujillo axis, in a police checkpoint.

The suspect was traveling on a bus on the “Expresos Sur del Lago” line, bound for Caracas.

At the time the vehicle was passing through the Citizen Service Point (PAC) of La Pastora, in the Torres municipality, the officials requested a review of the passengers’ luggage and documentation.

When they carried out the inspection, they noticed that one of the citizens was carrying a gift box and “a bow-shaped ribbon, this caught their attention and they asked him to open it,” according to Diario 2001.

After viewing the box, they looked at the seven sardine cans. At the time, they disarmed the containers and found a load of what they presume is cocaine, weighing three kilos and 800 grams.

The GNB proceeded to capture the man and took him to the 11th Prosecutor’s Office, with jurisdiction over narcotics.
