Hidden 10 years ago, a treasure of a million dollars found

Over the years, thousands of people have searched for the treasure that Forrest Fenn hid 10 years ago in the Rocky Mountains, United States.

Gold, emeralds, rubies and diamonds, the treasure estimated to be worth more than $1 million was found in the past few days, Mr Fenn announced on his website Sunday.

“The treasure had not moved from where I hid it 10 years ago. I don’t know the person who found it, but it was the poem in my book that led her to this place,” he said on his website without revealing the exact location.

Forrest Fenn confirmed to New Mexican from Sante Fe that the person sent him a picture of the treasure.

Art collector and millionaire, the 89-year-old American had hidden this treasure with one goal: to inspire people to explore nature and give them a little hope, as the United States crossed, at this time, the economic crisis.

To find the loot, the searchers had to rely on a few clues included in a 24-line poem published in Fenn’s 2010 autobiography, The Thrill of the Chase.

According to New Mexican, the man estimates that around 350,000 people from all over the world have gone in search of the treasure. At least two people have died trying to do so, according to Montana police, CNN reported.

“I congratulate the thousands of people who participated in the research,” he wrote on his site.

A Quebecer in search of treasure

In an article published in 2018 in The Journal of Montrealwe learned that a Laval resident, Sylvain Rivard, was looking for this treasure since 2013.

The man, who had stopped working in 2003 to devote himself to the search for treasures and the resolution of enigmas had made, at the time, six trips to the Rocky Mountains to find the treasure, without success.

“It is this treasure that I want for the moment. And my chances are excellent,” said the man, convinced.
