Hidalgo, present at the Huapango National Competition

From April 4 to 6, the 53rd edition of the National Huapango Contest will be held at the Casa del Huapango Crescencio Méndez Barajas Auditorium, and the Plaza Galasión Camacho, in the state of Querétaro, in which the participation of huapangueros from the states of Tamaulipas, San Luis Potosí, Veracruz, Hidalgo and Puebla, the latter as a special guest.

The purpose of this meeting, which had its origin in the Queretaro town of San Joaquín in 1970, is to promote the preservation, history, culture and dissemination of the huapango; a characteristic element of the seven huastecas made up of the participating states, and each one contributes, in its own style, to the consolidation of one of the most important and emblematic artistic currents in the country.

At a press conference, it was announced that this year’s edition will include various categories depending on the ages of the participants, since everyone from children to seniors can participate in this contest.

The qualification criteria will be based on rhythm, choreographic precision, authenticity, stage projection and costumes.

In this way, on Thursday, April 4, the categories “Pequeños Huapangueros” (from 3 to 7 years old), the Children’s category (from 8 to 12 years old) and Grandes Huapangueros (50 years and older) will compete.
