Hialeah receives 80 thousand Cubans in two years and the authorities ask for help to face it 2024-02-29 17:42:54

The mayor of Hialeah, Esteban Bovo Jr., has warned regarding the considerable increase in the immigrant population in the city, especially Cubans.

In the last two years, an estimated 80,000 Cubans have arrived in Hialeah, which represents a challenge for public services and urban planning, according to report from Telemundo 51.

In an effort to address this situation, the city hosted its first Immigration Forum, where different departments, such as police, fire, and parks and recreation, shared their experiences and concerns.

According to the information offered, the forum showed how the increase in population has impacted the daily work of public officials.

The increase in population has brought with it new problems, such as a greater number of traffic accidents, greater demand for public transportation and the need for more resources for emergency services.

A shocking example was mentioned by the head of the Fire Department, Willy Guerra, who mentioned the case of a person who suffered cardiac arrest inside a container.

THOUSANDS OF CUBANS ARRIVE IN HIALEAH

Mayor Bovo called on the federal government to provide assistance to the city to meet this challenge. He noted that resources are needed to help immigrants adapt to the city and improve public services for all residents.

According to the aforementioned media, the city plans to hold three more forums to discuss in depth the challenges and solutions related to immigration. It is expected that these events will have the participation of local authorities, councilors and community representatives.

Likewise, Mayor Bovo also mentioned the importance of conducting an accurate count of the city’s population. The current census, according to him, does not reflect the reality of Hialeah, and the Department of Homeland Security statistics do not include people who are not detected when crossing the borders or who arrive by other means.
