Hezbollah’s Political Defeat in Lebanon: Insightful Interview with MP Marawan Hamadeh

2023-06-14 14:54:00

A member of the “Democratic Gathering” bloc, MP Marawan Hamadeh, confirmed in an interview with the “An-Nahar Dialogue” program that the results of the June 14 session showed that for the first time since 2008 and the May 7 coup, Hezbollah recorded a political defeat of this kind.

He considered that there was a vote that was “eaten” on Azour’s jihad so that he would not reach the number 60, as if it was a number that had a special ring or achieved success in the elections, but he confirmed that this vote was obtained by Azour, noting that 60% of the parliament’s votes voted once morest the opposition candidate.

He reaffirmed that the results of the session were a setback for the party. Hamada noted that there is a solid Christian bloc, composed of forces, battalions, currents, and independents. He also considered that it is necessary to stop at the geographical results, as Mount Lebanon voted once morest the opposition, and this means that Christians, Druze, and part of the Sunnis voted once morest the “Hezbollah” candidate, which is an indication of saying to “Hezbollah”: “Let’s go.”

Hamadeh believed that the next stage will be open to a settlement that does not consecrate victory for one party, and therefore we will not be in the Iranian line in foreign policy, and today Iran has exited the circle of holding the Lebanese decision.

He pointed out that the upcoming settlement is a metaphor for a complete package, and the terms of this agreement are a presidency, a government, and a program, and the essence of this program is disassociation, and the re-liberation of the state and the judiciary from the domination of any of the parties in order for Lebanon to restore its health.
