Israel promises revenge after a Hezbollah drone managed to evade the Iron Dome late on Sunday evening and hit a military base, killing four soldiers. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu went there to see for himself what happened and, speaking with the military, assured that the Jewish State will continue to strike “mercilessly” against Hezbollah, “in all parts of Lebanon including Beirut”. Words that matched those pronounced by the Minister of Defense, Yoav Gallant who, in a conversation with his US counterpart Lloyd Austin, underlined the seriousness of the attack by announcing a “tough response”.

Meanwhile, in the last few hours, Israel has carried out a raid for the first time on a village with a Christian majority in the Zgharta region in the north of the Land of Cedars. According to the Lebanese Red Cross, more than 20 people died. The target – explain the Arab media – would have been a high-ranking Hezbollah official. On the Lebanese front, tension with Unifil also remains high. The Israeli energy minister, Eli Cohen, reiterated that the United Nations mission “has not guaranteed the application of UN resolutions” and “acts as a shield for Hezbollah”, therefore “it must be removed”. The Foreign Ministers of Italy, France, Germany and the United Kingdom, for their part, responded with a joint note asking Israel to “immediately end” the attacks on the Unifil contingent. The Defense announced that the Italian Blue Helmets found a series of incendiary explosive devices along the road leading to the Unp 1-32A forward operating base.

The situation does not improve even in Gaza where the toll from the Israeli air raid in which a tent city housing displaced Palestinians on the territory of the Al-Aqsa martyrs’ hospital in Deir al-Balah was reportedly at least four dead and 70 injured. Doctors who went to the scene spoke of people “burned alive” and of women and children injured in what they called “a horror show”. Also in Gaza, the Israeli army made official the death of the head of the Hamas air force in a raid carried out last September. Samer Abu-Daqa, this is his name, was among those who planned the infiltration into Israel on October 7 with paragliders and drones.
