Hours have passed since the explosions that shook the Lebanese capital Beirut, after the Israeli military pounded the southern outskirts of Beirut, the fate of Hezbollah leader, Hasan Nasrallah, remains uncertain. The Israeli Forces (IDF) have confirmed the killing of Muhammad Ali Ismail, head of Hezbollah’s missile unit in southern Lebanon, and his deputy, Hussein Ahmad Ismail. At least six people were killed and 91 injured in Friday’s raids against Hezbollah in Beirut’s southern suburbs, Lebanese media reported. Hezbollah has neither confirmed nor denied the rumors about the possibility that Nasrallah was killed, even though – highlights the BBC – media linked to Iran’s Revolutionary Guards claimed to have confirmation that “he is alive and in a safe place”. While on X there are those close to Hezbollah who ask supporters to “pray for the salvation of their leader”.
Sources close to Tel Aviv define his death as “probable”, as “it seems difficult to believe” that he survived the raids. Sources close to Hezbollah, as Reuters writes, give Nasrallah as “unreachable”. “It’s hard to believe he made it out alive,” an Israeli official told the Jerusalem Post about Nasrallah, who was among the targets of the carpet bombing.
In the last few hours, a request from the IDF has also arrived to the inhabitants of the Dahiyeh area, Hezbollah’s stronghold in Beirut, to move away from sites and structures of the Party of God. «We will continue to operate precisely to dismantle Hezbollah’s offensive capabilities – yes he reads in a post on “Our war is against Hezbollah, not against the population of Lebanon,” they repeat. The fate of the leader of the Shiite party may change the situation in the Middle East.
