Informed sources confirmed that one of the dead was linked to the Lebanese Hezbollah militia, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

She explained that among the dead was the group’s leader, a relative of a former leader of the “Maghawir al-Thawra” faction, who had left the 55 area under the control of the International Coalition in April 2020, and headed to the regime-controlled areas, in Palmyra in the Homs countryside.

She also indicated that he was working in the drug trade, had close relations with leaders in “Hezbollah”, and headed a local group operating in the southern region of Syria, and it included dozens of elements from the people of Daraa and As-Suwayda.

In addition, the sources pointed out that the groups linked to Hezbollah, and the Fourth Division headed by the brother of the head of the Syrian regime, Maher al-Assad, have recently intensified the transfer of drugs from Lebanon to areas in Daraa and As-Suwayda governorates, with the aim of bringing them into Jordan and other Arab countries.

Likewise, narcotics and raw materials for the manufacture of Captagon pills were smuggled from Lebanon to areas in Qalamoun in the countryside of Damascus and Al-Qusayr in the countryside of Homs, and later transferred to southern Syria, amid confirmed information regarding the intention of the militias linked to Hezbollah to start establishing new factories for the manufacture of these pills in As-Suwayda and Daraa, in coordination with Officers in the Military Intelligence Division, according to the observatory.

Several reports and information previously published by the observatory indicated that dozens of groups linked to Hezbollah are active in the drug industry, especially Captagon, in a number of Syrian regions, and are also active in smuggling operations between the two countries’ borders.

It is noteworthy that several Captagon factories are located in both Lebanon and Syria, especially near the Lebanese border, where many of them enjoy cover from Hezbollah or are loyal to it, despite the party’s denial of its involvement in that trade.

While these Iranian-backed militias have enjoyed influence in the regime’s areas since the outbreak of the war in the country, and an armed presence in many Syrian regions.
