Hezbollah confirms the death of Hassan Nasrallah

Israel has spoken of Nasrallah’s “neutralization” since yesterday (27/9), with the Israeli military saying on Twitter today that Nasrallah “will no longer be able to terrorize the planet”.

“Sayed Hassan Nasrallah, Secretary General of Hezbollah, has joined his great and immortal companions – the martyrs of Islam,” a Hezbollah statement said, among other things. The organization has so far denied the death of its leader.

Who was Hassan Nasrallah?

Nasrallah, 64, assumed leadership of Hezbollah in 1992, succeeding Abbas Mousavi, who was assassinated by Israel. In the following years, he turned the organization, which is financed and equipped by Iran, into a real political force, represented in parliament and the government.

At the same time, her arsenal also evolved. According to him, the organization has 100,000 fighters and possesses powerful weapons, such as precision missiles.

Hezbollah is the only organization that did not lay down its arms with the end of the civil war in Lebanon (1975-90), in the name of “resistance against Israel”. The Israeli army gradually withdrew from this country until in May 2000 it evacuated the southern areas as well, after 22 years of occupation.

With clashes between his men and the Israeli army, Hassan Nasrallah consolidated his power and gained respect in 1997 when his eldest son, Hadi, was killed in battle.

The 2006 war with Israel, which lasted 33 days, allowed him to demonstrate the strength of the movement as his fighters resisted the Israeli army. That summer, 1,200 Lebanese, mostly civilians, were killed, as well as 160 Israelis, mostly soldiers. Nasrallah had declared the end of the war, speaking of a “divine victory”. After that war, the Hezbollah leader began to limit his public appearances, but he delivered televised messages on a weekly basis.

In Lebanon, he found himself many times with his back against the wall, when his party was blamed for the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri in 2005 and then when his armed fighters temporarily took control of the capital in May 2008.

Nevertheless, he increased his influence not only in Lebanon but also in the wider region.

In 2013, he announced that Hezbollah had intervened militarily in neighboring Syria to support the regime of Bashar al-Assad, after the civil war that broke out in 2011. As it enjoyed the full confidence of the Iranian leadership, it trained and supported movements close to Tehran in the region. .

Israel: Non-stop bombing in Lebanon – “We killed two more Hezbollah commanders”

The “neutralization” of two more Hezbollah officials, besides Hassan Nasrallah, was announced this morning (28/9) by the Israel Defense Forces.

The IDF announced that the commander of Hezbollah’s rocket-launching unit in southern Lebanon, Mohammed Ali Ismail, and his deputy, Hussein Ahmed Ismail, were killed in an airstrike they launched earlier in the day.

“Along with them, other Hezbollah commanders and terrorists were killed,” says an IDF briefing in X.

Throughout the night of Friday (9/27) and into the early hours of Saturday (9/28), Israel continued its relentless airstrikes on buildings in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, which the IDF describes as “command centers” and “armouries ” of Hezbollah.

“Following accurate information from the IDF, the IAF (Israeli Air Force) carried out raids on strategic terrorist targets belonging to the terrorist organization Hezbollah in the Beirut area. Among the targets hit are weapons production facilities, buildings used to store advanced weapons and key command centers of the terrorist organization,” the Israel Defense Forces announced.

In a subsequent text published on X, the Israel Defense Forces said the “targeted strikes” were taking place in Beirut’s Dahiye area. According to this announcement, Hezbollah weapons were stored under civilian buildings in the area. Hezbollah, for its part, denied the allegations.

The Israeli army announced, also today (9/28), that it had eliminated the head of the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas network in southern Syria overnight.
