Hezbollah attacks Israel with 200 rockets in response to the commander’s death

Gaza During the nearly nine-month-old war, tensions rose Lebanese organization Hezbollah claimed to have fired more than 200 rockets and drones at Israeli military positions on Thursday.

According to the news agency AFP, Hezbollah said that its latest attack Israel in response to the death of a senior commander of the organization in southern Lebanon. Yesterday, Hezbollah claimed to have fired more than 100 rockets at Israel.

After the Hezbollah attack, Israel did not release any reports of casualties in its northern border area, where most communities were evacuated. But Israeli officials immediately said it had hit targets in southern Lebanon in retaliation.

Cross-border fire has been exchanged almost daily between Israel and Hezbollah since the Gaza conflict began on October 7, raising fears that the clashes might escalate into full-scale war.

The head of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, has said that the increase in clashes is disturbing.

The Israeli military said on Thursday that its forces were “attacking their launch posts in southern Lebanon following several projectiles and suspected aerial targets were fired from Lebanon into Israeli territory.”

The military added that most of the rockets fired were shot down in mid-air by air defense systems, but that the strikes “set fire in several areas of northern Israel.”

On Wednesday, Israel targeted a senior Hezbollah commander, Mohammad Naama Nasser, near the Lebanese coastal town of Tayr.

Sources close to Hezbollah have said that the slain senior commander was commanding one of the organization’s three most important sectors in South Lebanon. Another border sector commander was killed in an Israeli attack last month.

Hezbollah said that they have fired more than 200 rockets and a squadron of explosive drones at Israeli bases in response to the killings by the enemy.

In the morning, air raid sirens went off in northern Israel.
