The Russian-Ukrainian war imposed its economic repercussions on all the economies of the world, especially in the main issue, which is oil. As usual, the war fragments pursued Lebanon and recorded a new point on its economy. It was imperative to raise the price of fuels with all its derivatives to coincide with its global rise, following the oil barrel jumped from 92 to 111 dollars. .
These developments imposed on those concerned with the sector a series of meetings and contacts involving various parties inside and outside the government, to find appropriate solutions on how to calculate the new fuel prices.
The representative of fuel distributors in Lebanon, Fadi Abu Chakra, who seemed “desperate” regarding the entire Lebanese situation, explained to “Lebanon Debate” that “the rise in global oil prices in addition to the delay in unloading oil ships at sea caused a problem in the distribution of fuel, which necessitated several contracts. Meetings and contacts between importing companies, the Ministry of Energy, distributors and station owners in order to find ways out of the crisis.
Emphasizing that “the war is not confined to Ukraine and Russia, its repercussions have reached Lebanon, and what we are suffering in the last two days is primarily due to the high oil prices and the scarcity of fuel in Lebanon,” and he appeals to “everyone to unite to resolve the crisis quickly.”
Regarding the ships parked at sea, he points out that “contacts are underway to unload their cargo, and regarding the price on the basis of which their cargo will be unloaded,” and stresses that “it will be according to the international price of a barrel of oil.”
And regarding the price that the canister of gasoline or diesel will reach, he says, “I cannot give a number except that “what can be said that prices will rise a lot, and in the end it is the state who sets prices and it must take into account the rise in prices globally, and that the concern for them as those concerned with the matter is Securing the material for the people
