Our colleagues from RTL report the misadventure experienced by a Herseautois (Mouscron) last month. When Alexandre received his electricity bill, he must have jumped at the staggering amount displayed: 1,279,611.43 euros! “I had to re-read three times to realize that I wasn’t hallucinating,” he explains.

Faced with this situation, Alexandre decides to contact his energy supplier, Engie. However, the lady on the phone says that “she can’t do anything for him” and that “He has to wait for her to talk to his superiors regarding it”. He is also reminded that he only has one week to appeal before being debited the sum.

Energy: fixed contracts are becoming attractive once more for consumers, here’s how to choose

For several days, Alexandre obviously lived through a real nightmare before receiving the liberating phone call. “I was told it was a computer bug,” he says.

For its part, Engie spoke to RTL. According to the energy group, the error would come from the solar panels installed at Alexandre. Ores, the Walloon distribution network manager, would not have been aware of their presence due to the absence of a document and this would have completely distorted the calculations.
