According to the story told by Emilie, a resident of Boussu (province of Hainaut), her reflexes saved a life this Sunday. As she spends her Sunday with her family in La Panne, she is surprised by commotions. She sees a panicked man and woman running towards the public toilets of the seaside resort.
“Not seeing them coming back, I decided to go and see some. I thought they might need help. When I get to the toilets, I see the lady on the ground. I “At first I thought she was unwell. When I ask her husband what happened, he tells me that she has just given birth”, says Emily.
I wonder if the baby is okay.
The couple seem scared. Very quickly, Emilie notices that the baby, lying on her mother’s belly, is blue. “Without thinking”, she then comes to the aid of the infant. “I immediately took the baby and started cardiac massage directly”, remembers the young woman. This moment which must have lasted “between 5 and 8 minutes” seemed to him “an eternity”.
Very quickly, help was dispatched to the scene and took over. Well aware that she certainly saved the life of this baby, Emilie says that she did not think. “I did the things I had been taught. I passed my first aid certificate. While I was doing it, everyone was saying to the trainer, ‘On the models, it’s good. But the day it will be true, we do not know if we will get there. She always answered us ‘If I assure you. It will be a reflex. Well, she was right.” she smiled.
In the followingmath of this exceptional rescue, the resident of Boussu remains worried. “I wonder if the baby is okay and if he will have any sequelae. Yesterday followingnoon, the grandmother called me to tell me that the baby was in the hospital, but that he was steady”she explains.
