According to the Gyeonggi Province Fire and Disaster Headquarters on the 13th, a 119 report was received at 11:29 am that a fire broke out on the 11th floor of an apartment in Gojan-dong, Danwon-gu, Ansan.

Firefighters arrived at the scene at approximately 11:35 a.m., six minutes following the report, and found a teenage woman struggling to escape the billowing smoke, clinging to the railing on the 11th floor where the fire had started.

The fire department immediately took action and deployed crews to extinguish the flames and enter the apartment, while also installing an elevated ladder and air mats to prepare for any emergency.

After securing an evacuation route, Fire Chief Cho Jun-hyung of the Ansan Fire Department entered the house and rescued the woman hanging from the railing through the window at approximately 11:44 a.m., 15 minutes following the report.

The rescued person, Ms. A (16, first year of high school), was so frightened that her nose and mouth were covered in soot, making it difficult for her to communicate properly, but other than inhaling some smoke, she was found to have suffered no significant injuries.

At the time of the fire, there were no other family members in the house other than Ms. A.

Fire Chief Cho said, “After stabilizing the rescuer as much as possible, we activated the life-saving breathing aid and brought him down to the ground safely.” He added, “I am truly grateful to the female student who held on to the railing until the end in extreme fear, and I hope she finds stability as soon as possible.” He said.

The fire was extinguished within 20 minutes of being reported. There were no casualties, but household items inside the house were burned and damaged. Fire authorities believe the fire started near the sofa in the living room and are investigating the cause of the fire.
