After “Hermann Fleischlos” was discontinued last year, the food manufacturer “Neuburger” is launching a new vegetarian line. The founders Hermann and Thomas Neuburger announced this last Friday. Details of the new “HERMANN.BIO” brand were announced on Wednesday.
From this week at Spar
The new product, the “Fungi Pad”, consists of about 55 percent mushroom mushrooms and contains no artificial ingredients, said Hermann and Thomas Neuburger. From this week the patty will be available from Eurospar, Interspar and Spar, initially for a year. Hermann Neuburger did not want to quantify the expected turnover. “We don’t generally announce sales figures, but it would be really presumptuous to make concrete forecasts, especially with this project,” he said.
Funding through meat production
For the predecessor line “Hermann Fleischlos”, which has now been discontinued, the break-even point was expected in 2025. Hermann Neuburger did not want to give a date for “HERMANN.BIO”, but “it will definitely be later.” The vegetarian line is still financed through meat production and “at some point we stopped counting the costs,” says Hermann Neuburger.
Seitlinge are bred in Ulrichsberg
The mushroom balls are made by 20 employees in Ulrichsberg in Upper Austria. From 2017 to 2020, 38 halls with a total area of 25,000 m2 were built there, in which the king oyster mushrooms are cultivated. By 2021, the company will have invested around 50 million euros in buildings, systems and mushroom cultivation. This means that enough capacity has been created to be able to supply Austria and Germany with the new product, according to Hermann Neuburger.
In addition to the mushroom patty, another sales channel is the sale of the mushroom substrate to other mushroom growers.
