Herman van Veen commemorates friend and colleague Laurens van Rooyen

Herman van Veen has reflected on the death of his friend Laurens van Rooyen on social media. The composer and pianist died on Thursday at the age of 88.

Van Veen shared a message on Instagram with a photo of his friend. In it he mentions his anniversary performance on January 12 of this year. Then Van Veen played his 600th solo performance in the Carré theater. “Saw Laurens at our party in Carré. On January 12, he stood next to me with a rose and people clapped for more than sixty years of friendship. I didn’t know then that it was the last time I held him in my arms. “Friend, colleague,” I said, following which he whispered more than that.”

Van Veen and Van Rooyen met at the Utrecht Conservatory. In 1966 they founded the Harlekijn Music Theater together, where they performed with self-composed songs.
