Habsburg and the Alps (1/2)
The Habsburgs were drawn to nature, and from the 19th century also to the Alps. Franz Joseph, Archduke Johann and also Empress Elisabeth strived for the peaks and thus unintentionally became trendsetters of people’s newly discovered passion for the mountains. In this ORF III two-parter, director Christian Papke follows the alpine paths of prominent Habsburgs and shows how they wanted to gain inner peace and distance from the everyday life of rulers at higher altitudes. He also highlights the image change of the mountains within a few years.
