As we relayed to you this Tuesday, the Red Devils have decided to change their slogan for the new qualifying campaign.
No more #Deviltime. On the various publications of the Red Devils’ social networks, we will now read #WIRSCHAFFENDAS. That we can translate #ONVALEFAIRE in French and #ALLESGEVEN in Dutch.
“The hashtag represents the belief shared by URBSFA, the players and the supporters of a successful qualifying campaign. But also a reference to the fact that the players and the supporters will have to give everything to qualify for this European championship. The campaign is also translated into the other two languages of the country with the slogans #ONVALEFAIRE and #ALLESGEVEN.The German slogan #WIRSCHAFFENDAS is a nod to the place of this next big tournament (Germany, editor’s note), to the roots of our new federal coach Domenico Tedesco (Italo-German) and our third national language”explained the Belgian Union in a press release.
This slogan was best known when Angela Merkel uttered it when welcoming many migrants to her country. It was in 2015. Our colleagues from the Nieuwsblad interviewed Geert Van Istendael, an author who knows Germany very well. According to him, it was not a good idea to use this slogan. “This expression is very common in Germany. They use it every day. When Merkel spoke, two waves rose: a warm wave of solidarity from the people who embraced her. But there was also a wave of hatred. People thought she was a traitor. Everywhere she went there were protests. I don’t know if the Red Devils are aware of that.”
