According to sources from the Bloomberg news agency, King Charles III will be crowned during a ceremony scheduled for June 3, 2023. Buckingham Palace did not wish to react to this announcement.
It would then be almost precisely 70 years following the coronation of her mother, Elizabeth II, celebrated on June 2, 1953. A ceremony which took place when she succeeded her father, King George VI, who died more than a year previously, in February 1952.
The coronation will take place at Westminster Abbey. We expect a shorter and more modest ceremony than that for Elizabeth II. Representatives of other beliefs, religious or otherwise, should be invited.
The coronation of Elizabeth II took place in the presence of more than 8,000 guests from 129 countries. For security reasons, a maximum of 2,000 people will be seated in Westminster Abbey this time. Next June, Charles III will be 74 years old. This will make him the oldest monarch at the time of his coronation in the history of British royalty. He succeeded his mother, who died on September 8.
