This Monday, October 9, from 8 p.m., the French sky will be crossed by several dozen shooting stars, which we call the Draconids.

We’re going to have to look up tonight. This Monday evening, from 8 p.m. until midnight, the sky will be crossed by a shower of shooting stars. The latter are called the Draconids, in relation to the constellation Dragon.

They pass through the sky between October 6 and 10, but their peak activity is expected this Monday evening. Tonight, it will be possible to enjoy 10 shooting stars per hour. But for this, you have to follow some instructions.

Eyes to the North to enjoy the spectacle

First of all, you will have to direct your gaze towards the north, that is to say towards the constellation Dragon. This constellation is located west of Ursa Minor.

Luckily for amateur astronomers, it is not necessary to have a special instrument to see them. Draconids are visible to the naked eye. The best way to observe them is to move as far away as possible from artificial light sources.

You will still have to stay focused so as not to miss the ten shooting stars per hour, because the Draconids are in a rather calm swarm, except in 2021, when we might count up to 600 meteors per hour. A phenomenon that we will not find once more before 2062, according to Nord Littoral.
