“Here it goes, they’ve already forgotten”: Mayor of Antofagasta summons Boric for migratory crisis | National

“The migratory crisis continues here, they have already forgotten,” said the mayor of Antofagasta, who in the company of parliamentarians requested that President Gabriel Boric visit the regions affected by the migratory crisis, during his tour of the North Macrozone.

Authorities from the North Macrozone, including the mayor of Antofagasta, summoned President Gabriel Boric to include the localities affected by the migration crisis during the tour of the area that the president will begin on Thursday.

Parliamentarians also question the decision not to renew the Exception status in the area, which expired last Friday.

This coming Thursday, April 21, the President of the Republic, Gabriel Boric, will launch his first regional tour, heading to the northern part of the country, where, according to Radio Bío Bío sources, visits to the regions affected by migration crisis.

The deputy of Evópoli and representative of district 1, Enrique Lee, indicated that he would like the highest authority of the country to be present in the northern zone, to explain the decision of the Government of not renew the State of Exception in the provinces of Arica and Parinacota, Tamarugal and El Loa.


This measure was in force since February 15 and was rendered ineffective this Friday, news that was communicated on the tour made a few days ago by the Undersecretary of the Interior, Manuel Monsalve.

Migratory crisis and threat of “forgiveness” from the government of Gabriel Boric

Along the same lines, the mayor of Antofagasta, Jonathan Velázquez, lamented that his region not be included in the tour itineraryarguing that the migration crisis has not been combated efficiently by the new authorities.

“I feel that he (Boric) should have left here, in the north. Here follows the migratory crisis, they have already forgotten. It lasted a week, when the truck driver died,” said the community chief.

For his part, the parliamentarian for the Antofagasta region and member of the National Renewal caucus, Jose Miguel Castro, lamented that the President not yet present in the North Macrozone.

He added that according to the measures that have been taken by the Executive, this might be the prelude to a “sorry” for the massive regulation of migrants.

The regional tour would include visits to the Coquimbo region and would last until Saturday, April 23.
