Here is the new ice man – and that must happen with the iconic ice house

At the end of January, it emerged that Hansens Is is not coming to Tversted for the summer season following all and is selling ice cream on the plot near Tversted Strand, where the Blue Ice House is located.

The attractive ice rights had been up for tender; Premier Is, which has run the house for many years, had lost the bidding round, and the plan was for Hansens Is to take over.

But it still came to nothing.

Since then, it has been unknown what will happen to the light blue ice house, which many people love and have fond memories of.

But now a solution has been found:

– An agreement has been concluded with Ole Pedersen regarding the lease, informs chairman of the technical and environmental committee in Hjørring Municipality, Søren Homann (K).

Hjørring Municipality owns the land, and last year the lease agreement had to be renewed, and there was a bidding round.

Ole Pedersen has now won it.

– We have now made an agreement for five years, says Søren Homann.

The Blue Ice House is being renovated

Ole Pedersen is an experienced ice man who already runs Det Grå Ishus in Tversted a little further up the road down to the beach as well as the Sunset Kiosk in Skagen.

Ole Pedersen plans to open on Saturday 23 March – that’s when the schools’ Easter holidays begin.

And it will happen in the Blue Ice House itself.

– Premier Is owns the building itself, and I have been allowed to borrow it. It will happen that we do a renovation inside and out before and following Easter, says Ole Pedersen.

Premier Ice will deliver the ice cream. It will be both their ice cream and their Italian ice cream under the name Bravissimo.

– There will be a selection of both brands in both ice houses, says Ole Pedersen.

There had previously been plans for the Blue Ice House to be moved to another location, but that has been cancelled.

The Blue and the Grey

Ole Pedersen is happy that he has won the tender.

– It makes good sense to run two ice houses next to each other in Tversted, he says and points out that you can then adapt whether there is a need to keep both ice houses open or just one.

– The idea is that the Blue Ice House will be open every day during the season, and then we will supplement it with the Gray Ice House on the days when two ice houses are needed. It can be at Easter, Pentecost, weekends and summer holidays.

Ole Pedersen has noted that there has been great interest in Det Blå Ishus.

– I think it’s because people have been coming there for decades. I think people have some feelings regarding such an ice house, which has been there for a lifetime. It is iconic for Tversted and not least for Premier Ice.

Now he is looking forward to the summer in Tversted:

– I believe and hope that it will be a fantastic summer. I hope for real ice weather with sunshine and dream weather.

Three offers for an ice house

There were a total of three who offered to be allowed to sell ice cream from the attractive site near Tversted Strand.

There was great interest in the ice house when it emerged that something new was to happen – and many have expressed on social media that they were tired of the prospect of the Blue Ice House disappearing.

– It shows that this is something that has emotions in it, says Søren Homann.
