An alleged victim of sexual abuse who was never heard, two left-wing journalists under investigation and the meeting with the only witness. It is a story with many shadows involving the reporter of the newspaper Domani, Nello Trocchia, and his wife Sara Giudice, a correspondent for La7, both accused of sexual violence against a colleague. The story, on which the utmost confidentiality has been maintained, dates back to the night of January 30, 2023 when, after Giudice’s birthday party, the couple returned home in a taxi together with one of the guests. “As soon as the doors closed I found them on top of me,” the alleged victim reported to the police on February 2 of last year. The reconstruction put on record by the girl sees Trocchia and his wife as the protagonists of effusions to which she claims she did not consent, squeezed between the two in the back seat of a taxi and unable to move.
“I couldn’t react,” she wrote in the complaint. And, convinced that a couple of alcoholic cocktails couldn’t have had that effect, the day after the alleged molestations she took tests at a private laboratory, resulting positive for the date rape drug, even though the subsequent test at the Higher Institute of Health was negative. That’s how she decided to report it, retracing the entire evening at the club, then the mishap in the taxi and the insistent request to finish at the couple’s house. Finally that moment of lucidity that allowed her to get back in the taxi. The only witness of that seven-minute ride is the taxi driver, who said that the girl “was shaking” so much that he himself told her to stay calm, “because I wouldn’t have jumped on her like that other one.”
The driver of the white car, following the journalist’s complaint, was summoned to give his testimony, but the phone had already been tapped, since on the evening of February 1, that single witness had met Trocchia, who had contacted him to retrieve the hat that his wife had left in the taxi. “Nothing, it was the story of someone who got into my car, someone who started hitting on his wife, they were both hitting on her if they wanted to take her home, I took her and brought her home to her,” he said to a friend. In a subsequent call he told the person he was talking to that he had said everything he had seen and added: “I don’t know, I swear to you, it didn’t seem all that heavy to me… I don’t know what companies, I don’t know what she did… she probably filed the complaint because otherwise they wouldn’t have called me.” And again: “They asked me three thousand five hundred questions, I explained to them that it’s not that I saw, I didn’t see anything.” While the Rome Public Prosecutor’s Office has requested the archiving of the case against Trocchia and Giudice, the victim’s lawyer, Alessandro Gentiloni Silveri, writes on the point in the opposition request: «It is worth noting that the request for permission from the wife and not from my client (Trocchia’s regarding being able to kiss the girl, ed.) confirms that the lady was treated as a sort of object by the two defendants.
These statements completely and definitively deny Trocchia’s version, that he asked my client if, seeing her kissing Sara, she wanted to kiss him too”. Wife and husband maintain that it was the colleague who tried first and that she consented. Too bad that no one asked the alleged victim anything, since she was not heard by the magistrates, even though the red code provides for it.
