Here is Sony’s electric car, it’s called Afeela

At CES 2023, Sony did not unveil any new televisions, the Japanese brand nevertheless formalized the future launch of its electric car in collaboration with Honda, this is the Afeela concept.

After showing us some concepts, Sony and Honda have finally unveiled a prototype. It’s no surprise, the joint venture was already announced for many months.

A long-term project

It’s been three years since Sony’s first idea was revealed, it was the concept Vision-S in 2020. At the time, it was predicted that no one would be able to buy this sedan. We were wrong.

Then Sony has unveiled a Vision-S 02 concept in January 2022, but nothing has been confirmed as to a series commercialization. This time it was an SUV.

This time it’s official. Sony has announced that its Sony Honda Mobility car will debut in 2026, in collaboration with Qualcomm. It’s a sedan that has a name.

Sony and Honda will open pre-orders for their car, dubbed He diedin the first half of 2025, for the North American market.

Epic Games has also partnered with Sony to provide technologies such as Unreal Engine 5.

In fact, Unreal Engine 5 will be used for the car’s operating system, to drive infotainment and animations on the Afeela’s screens. That’s good, there’s a bunch.

There are 45 sensors in total on the Sony Honda Afeela car, which naturally include multiple cameras, inside and out, as well as a prominent LiDaR on top of the car.

Inside, a massive screen dominates the front dash, which Sony says will be an opportunity to push movies, music and games.

As for the car itself, no features have been revealed so far. The Afeela prototype seen today is close to the first Vision-S concept, the production sedan certainly won’t be that far off.

We should be able to expect an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 5 seconds. The 4-door sedan will certainly be a competitor between the Model 3 and the Model S from Tesla.
