Herbert debut: Bayern basketball players win against Chemnitz

The basketball players of FC Bayern Munich have won their first competitive game under their new head coach and former national team coach Gordon Herbert. In the opening game of the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL), the defending champions beat the Niners Chemnitz at home with 73:59 (36:28).

Herbert’s successor as national coach, the Spaniard Álex Mumbrú, saw a good defensive performance from Bayern as a spectator. At the end of the first quarter, Chemnitz had more turnovers than field goals. However, the guests equalized an 8:15 deficit at the end of the quarter to 16:16.

In the second period, Chemnitz also struggled to score from the field and had only scored once from the field in the middle of the quarter. On the other side, Devin Booker and national player Oscar da Silva exploited their size advantage – with a combined 20 points, the duo led Munich to a 36:28 halftime lead.

Chemnitz did not give up and reduced the lead to 13 points, but despite a poor three-point percentage, the hosts did not let anything go wrong. Da Silva scored the most points with 19 points.

The match was played on a glass floor, which Bayern installed permanently in the BMW Park this season. The lines of the pitch are displayed via LED.
