After a brutal robbery last Saturday in Wels, the suspect was arrested the following Sunday morning in Thalheim.
The 32-year-old man, who had previously dragged a 58-year-old from his SUV and brutally beat and kicked him, was discovered by a homeowner in his unlocked apartment, where the perpetrator had sneaked in.
When the police arrived, the suspect initially fled, jumped into the Traun and hid in a nearby forest. There he was stopped by the police and attacked both the officers and a police dog during his arrest.
Bite in lower leg
Service dog “Daria” was then deployed and was able to stop the perpetrator by biting him in the lower leg.
The robbery in Wels occurred on Saturday when a 58-year-old was sitting in his parked SUV on Adlerstrasse.
The perpetrator ripped open the door, hit the victim and stole the vehicle. While fleeing, he caused a traffic accident near Thalheim by colliding with another car and hitting a street lamp.
Belt prevented 2nd car robbery
The driver of the second vehicle, a 52-year-old, was also attacked. The attempt to pull him out of the car failed because of the seat belt.
Both victims suffered injuries; the 58-year-old went to hospital himself, while the 52-year-old suffered minor injuries.
The perpetrator, whose drug test was positive for benzodiazepines, was taken to Wels prison. He partially confessed.
