Heo Woong confirmed COVID-19… Basketball team emerges ahead of the Asian Cup quarterfinals

“After positive rapid antigen test on the 17th, PCR test and final confirmation on the 18th”

The Korean men’s basketball team, participating in the 2022 International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Asia Cup, has taken an emergency following Heo Woong (KCC) tested positive for the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19).

The Korea Basketball Association announced on the 18th that “Heo Woong of the men’s national team participating in the Asian Cup has been infected with Corona 19.”

The association explained, “Heo Woong felt an abnormality in his body on the 17th and received a rapid antigen test. After a positive result, he immediately proceeded with a gene amplification (PCR) test.”

According to the association, Heo Woong was immediately quarantined, and in accordance with the quarantine regulations of the tournament, Athlete A, who shared the same room, was also tested for rapid antigen and quarantined.

The association added, “All of the athletes who were in close contact underwent rapid antigen testing, and all of them have been confirmed to be negative so far.”

The Korean national team, led by coach Il-seung Choo, beat China, Taiwan and Bahrain in this tournament being held in Jakarta, Indonesia, passing the group stage first in Group B and advancing to the quarterfinals.

The quarterfinals will be played on the 21st with the winner of the New Zealand-Syria match.

Korea, which won the Asian Cup in 1969 and 1997, this time in its 30th Asian Cup, is aiming to reach the semifinals or higher this time.
