In the evening hours of this Friday, August 16, the national secretary of the Democratic Action (AD), Piero Marounas announced through his social networks during the early hours of the morning by the general secretary of the white party, Henry Ramos Allup.
He said Maroun was captured while having dinner with his family.
“I report that comrade Piero Maroun, national secretary of organization, while having dinner with his wife and sister-in-law in a restaurant today at 10:20 pm, was detained by three unidentified persons forcing him to board a Toyota pickup truck with license plate AB873CD.”, Ramos Allup reported, as reported by Efecto Cocuyo.
One of the reactions that was generated against this arrest was the leader of the Venezuelan opposition, Maria Corina Machadowho on Saturday morning posted on his account X about this situation, calling Piero “a comrade in arms”.

It should be remembered that Maroun is a member of the non-intervened AD administration, who has expressed his support for the presidential candidacy of Edmundo González and in support of the Unitary Platformso much so that on more than one occasion he led his press conferences on behalf of the PUD during the campaign.
Piero Maroun’s name joins the other five leaders of the white party arrested in August alone. One of the last was the former deputy Williams Dávilawho was forcibly taken away by unknown men after leaving the vigil held for political prisoners on August 8 in Los Palos Grandes, Chacao municipality, Miranda state.
The mayor of Tinaquillo is also in this situation, Fernando Feo; the councilor Beatriz Andrade member of AD in the state of Anzoátegui and councilor for the Freites municipality; Endrick Medinasecretary of the party’s organization in the Torres municipality of Lara state; and the journalist and general secretary in the Leonardo Infante municipality of Guárico state, Jose Camero.
