ALGIERS – The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mohamed Abdelhafid Henni, chaired a national meeting bringing together professionals and players in the poultry sector, during which he spoke of the need to work on price regulation on the occasion of the month of Ramadan, said a press release from the ministry on Thursday.
The meeting, held on Wednesday, focused on the importance of this sector and the main measures taken by the ministry to promote the poultry and white meat sector, in particular by ensuring the supply of organic inputs and food at prices studied by the National Cattle Feed Office (ONAB).
In this context, the representatives of the sector welcomed these measures which contribute directly to its regulation and to the control of the list of reference prices for production, agreeing to work together within the framework of a participatory approach to regulate the market in order to preserve citizens’ purchasing power and provide quality products at affordable prices.
As part of a solidarity initiative between the National Poultry Industry Federation (FNFA) and ONAB, it was agreed to maintain white meat prices at 350 DA/kg throughout the month of Ramadhan, and to deploy more than 540 points of sale across the country, organized by public economic groups in the sector, according to the same source.
The number of points of sale should increase during this sacred month with the establishment of several local markets in all the wilayas of the country, we note.
For their part, the members of the FNFA National Office affirmed their commitment to reducing the price of white meat and eggs, through the solidarity initiative aimed at offering a product at affordable prices and opening direct sales from producer to consumer.
The meeting took place in the presence of the president and members of the National Office of the FNFA under the National Union of Algerian Peasants (UNPA), and representatives of the Interprofessional Council of the poultry sector, according to the same source.
Also taking part in this meeting were representatives of the sector among breeders and producers, ministry officials, and the Chairman and CEO of ONAB, as well as a representative of the Agro- logistics (AGROLOG).
