Hemodialysis service allows patients from Misiones to receive treatment in their own department

Asuncion, IP Agency.- Some 28 people from the Misiones department receive dialysis in their own territory, without having to travel to the country’s capital to receive treatment for chronic kidney disease.

The eighth department of the country has taken a significant step in the care of chronic kidney disease by having an equipped Nephrology Center. With this, the quality of life of kidney patients in the region has been significantly improved.

The service has been in operation for 6 years and 4 months, with professionals duly trained to provide care. It has two shifts per day (morning and afternoon), assisting seven patients in each shift. Currently, 14 people receive treatment per week, totaling 28 per month.

Behind every dialysis machine, there is a story of struggle, hope and resilience, like that of Benancio Galeano, who, despite the challenges, has spent 25 years learning to live with hemodialysis. This patient has been going to the Nephrology Center of Misiones for 6 years, avoiding traveling every other day to the country’s capital to undergo dialysis, as he did for 19 years.

For his strength, for moving forward with a smile, and for the admiration he received, the hospital’s professionals showed their gratitude and recognition in a small but significant event, which was also attended by Don Benancio’s family and the director of the Regional Hospital, Dr. Pablo Aveiro.

“Benancio Galeano, only you know what you have been through in these 25 years, only you know how difficult it has been. We congratulate you for continuing every day, especially those days that are sometimes more difficult,” reads the certificate of gratitude and recognition. The honoree thanked the professionals for the good care, support and affection they show to each of the people who undergo dialysis every day in the service.

For his part, Dr. Pablo Aveiro mentioned that, soon, an additional shift will be available to improve and expand the opportunity for patients who require dialysis.
