The Union of nurses and nursing assistants of Héma-Québec (CSN) announced that these members will be on strike Friday, for half a day.
For this purpose, only three members of the nursing staff will be on site to take the samples.
Citizens of the Quebec region who had an appointment scheduled between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. to donate plasma, platelets or blood are invited to postpone it.
From 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., only appointments for the collection of platelets and plasma will be held.
“The employer maintains the hard line, explained the president of the union, Vanessa Poirier. He wants to impose conditions on us that are inferior to those of other nurses. We cannot accept such a setback!”
The strike was voted 100% by the members, and several have already said they have considered quitting.
“It is not with lightness of heart that they have gone on strike, recalls the vice-president of the FSSS-CSN, Lucie Longchamps. Unfortunately, Héma-Québec gives them no other choice,” she added, adding that on March 31, the collective agreement will expire.
“Friday will be the first half-day of strike, but there will be others, as long as Héma-Québec does not change its tune, warned the president of the Conseil central de Québec–Chaudière-Appalaches-CSN. , Barbara Poirier. Héma-Québec’s 75 nurses and nursing assistants are far from alone in this battle. The entire CSN will stand by them, as long as it takes, until they get the respect they deserve.”
