Leader in waste processing in Switzerland, Helvetia employs 450 people on 22 sites and collects 350,000 tonnes of waste per year, the Paprec group said in a press release. Switzerland was the first market outside France for the Paprec group, whose increase in the capital of Helvetia reflects a “industrialization of these professions linked to the ecological transition», entered a phase of concentration, according to the boss of Paprec.

“Considerable levels of investment”

«The industry which prepares these materials and produces these green energies must be structured and there are considerable levels of investment.», he added, this sector of activity being currently more fragmented in Switzerland than it is in France. In addition to the collection, sorting, incineration and recycling of waste, Helvetia will soon build a biowaste methanization plant in the canton of Geneva, for which authorization from the Swiss authorities has just been obtained.

This activity is also gaining momentum at Paprec, which in March 2022 won a call for tenders for a methanization plant for food waste produced in Île-de-France and is in the running for a similar call for tenders from the city of Madrid. Paprec recalled having been present in Switzerland for 13 years with six sites. There he took over the Lottner group to form Paprec Suisse. However, Spain is its most important market outside France.

Founded almost 30 years ago by the Petithuguenin family, Paprec is the third French company in waste and energy recovery. It has 15,000 employees on 300 sites in ten countries and forecasts a turnover of around 3 billion euros for 2024.
