Last September, Samir Haddad received the shocking news: cancer was silently and maliciously growing inside him. Samir was diagnosed with lymphoma and decided to fight at all costs. Indeed, he began his battle with the disease, but his love for life and his will did not help him overcome the malignant disease, because his body did not respond as it should to the treatments.
The 51-year-old husband and father has not lost hope. He refuses to give up, not out of fear of illness, but out of fear for his daughters and wife. He thinks regarding one thing: he wants to protect them and stand by their side before he leaves this life. He believes that “we are fleeting in this life” but he hopes to buy time for his family, so as not to leave them in this way.
The wound is bleeding once more, the wound of the family that had buried Samir’s sister with the same disease 40 days ago, finds itself today shedding tears, refusing to let its son Samir face the same fate.
His daughter Celine (21 years old) confirmed in her interview with “An-Nahar” that following my father was diagnosed with lymphoma, we began the journey of chemotherapy with various protocols, but he did not benefit from them and was left with only a treatment available in the United States.
She added, “The treatment is CAR-T cell, which gave positive and effective results in this type of cancer, but it is not available in Lebanon, and we need to travel to America so that my father can receive the treatment. This treatment consists of transplanting new cells following the cancer has eliminated the existing cells.” If he does not undergo this treatment, he will not last more than 4 months.”
Celine stutters when she talks regarding her father. She is afraid for him and only wants her father to receive this treatment. It is not easy for us to think regarding what things might turn out if we cannot secure the amount. We fear that my father will lose his battle with life, as happened with my two aunts who died of cancer. We live in a race once morest time, and our concern is for my father to have the opportunity to fight this villain with the appropriate weapon.”
The cost of treatment is $200,000, and Celine realizes that the circumstances are difficult for everyone, but that people’s togetherness and solidarity are capable of achieving the impossible. Small initiatives can change the landscape, and any financial support can accelerate reaching the required amount.
Celine admits, “We did not expect that we would ever ask for help. My father did not extend his hand to anyone. He loves life and does not ask anyone for anything. I feel sorry for him as things are, but for us as a family, we are ready to do anything so that he gets his chance at treatment.” Health is the most important thing and nothing beats preserving it, and we will not give up until we secure the amount and see him full of life in front of us.”
Samir has been in the Hotel Dieu Hospital for a week. The family’s cry today is to put away the cup of death that they drank a month ago. They do not want to taste a new cup of loss, and they hope that people will stand by them to secure the money so that Samir can travel to America.
