“Abu Hazeem” is unable to pay the cost of his child’s stay for two weeks in the pediatric intensive care department at Al Jalila Children’s Specialized Hospital in Dubai, following he suffered from severe chest infection that prevented him from breathing normally, which necessitated his transfer by ambulance to the hospital, and he was immediately placed in the intensive care department. For children (nursery).
The cost of the child’s stay was 58,410 dirhams, which is a large amount compared to his father’s financial capabilities.
And the medical report issued by Al Jalila Specialist Hospital, of which «Emirates Today» obtained a copy, showed that the five-week-old child was admitted to the emergency department following suffering from a dry cough and severe difficulty in breathing, so he was immediately transferred to the pediatric intensive care department, where he received care necessary medical.
The report added that the child had severe chest infection, which caused him severe shortness of breath, and due to his young age he might not breastfeed, which necessitated his transfer to the hospital, his stay in the intensive care unit, intensification of his treatment and continuous follow-up until his health condition improved.
Abu Hazeem said: “When I learned that my wife was pregnant, I was very happy because I will become a father, and I decided to provide the means of comfort to take care of the child and my wife. My wife had symptoms of childbirth, so I immediately took her to the specialized clinic, where the doctor examined her, and asked us to transfer her to a government hospital as soon as possible.”
The father continued, “I took her to Latifa Hospital, and she was admitted to the maternity department, where she underwent a normal delivery, and stayed for two days in the hospital, and the health of the mother and child was stable, following which the doctor allowed us to be discharged.”
He added, “My son has completed one month of age, and in recent days he has begun to cough slightly, so we thought it was normal, and that it is a symptom that affects infants in general.”
“Abu Hazeem” continued, “The child’s cough began to increase, and he sank into a fit of continuous crying and shouting. So I decided to take him to a clinic near our home. When the doctor examined him, he said that he had a virus, and he needed to use the vaporizer continuously, and prescribed some medications for him.”
And the father added, “The child’s condition did not improve, but was getting worse and worse, and suddenly the color of his face changed, and we felt great fear and anxiety, so I called the emergency department, and the ambulance came and took him immediately to Al-Jalila Specialized Hospital for Children, where he was admitted to the pediatric intensive care department, For treatment”.
The father said, “My son stayed for two weeks in the intensive care unit until his condition stabilized, following which he was transferred to a private room to complete his treatment. The hospital bill amounted to 58,410 dirhams, and I am confused regarding how to manage this large amount.”
Abu Hazeem added that he is the only breadwinner for his family, and he works in a private company with a salary of 10,000 dirhams, appealing to philanthropists to extend a helping hand to him so that he can pay the cost of his child’s treatment.
