Police services in northern France have announced the arrest of a biker, a member of the Hells Angels, for an attempted murder committed on August 30, 2022 in Leuze-en-Hainaut in the rue du Gard district.
Under the influence of a European arrest warrant, the individual, a French national, was arrested by the judicial police of Lille in Mons-en-Baroeul (near Villeneuve d’Ascq). Imprisoned in Douai prison following being presented to the prosecution, the 29-year-old biker had shot a young man, originally from the Middle East, at a pedestrian crossing located at the crossroads of the streets of Gard, Ath and Charles Duvivier.
An altercation followed by several gunshots
The victim, born in 1990, had collapsed following being hit by several bullets. The facts had occurred around 2:30 p.m. close to the Collegiate Church of Saint-Pierre. Witnesses had explained that they had seen a man of foreign nationality discussing briefly with a motorcyclist, descended from his machine. It was following this altercation that he opened fire for an unknown motive.
This drama had caused a stir in Leuze and more particularly in this district of the city center, where the police officers of the Beloeil-Leuze area were deployed in large numbers.
The young man with three or four shots (particularly in the chest and a hand) had been transported to the emergency room of the Tournai hospital of CHwapi, in a condition considered serious. Despite the seriousness of his injuries, he was able to be saved.
An automatic pistol discovered at the scene of his arrest
According to our colleagues from France Bleu, the biker attached to the sulphurous Hells Angels group was arrested at the home of a friend who was hosting him. Inside, the police discovered an automatic pistol but we do not know if it was this weapon that was used in Leuze on August 30, 2022. The suspect was already known to French justice for acts of violence and aggravated theft . According to our information, it was not “attached” to the premises opened in 2018 in Leuze by the Hells Angels, which serves as the new headquarters for Hainaut.
The shooter will soon be handed over to the Belgian judicial authorities. He will be heard by an investigating judge who will decide, on the basis of the elements of the file examined by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Mons (Tournai division), whether or not to charge him with attempted murder.
