Hellmut Lotti Goes Metal: A Spectacular Showcase of the New Metal Season

The first showcase of the fall always has a special flavor but for this new metal season, Classic 21 took the gamble of inviting the man who set the Graspop plain on fire this summer, as a true outsider, namely Helmut Lotti.

Rather considered as a charming or variety singer, in 33 years of career, Helmut Lotti has built a solid reputation and yet he took the risk of launching into a hard-rock/metal show, under the name of ” Hellmut Lotti Goes Metal”, the “l” in his name having been doubled for the occasion and to better fit the style.

This somewhat surreal project started regarding a year ago, at the invitation of Flemish radio station Willy, who asked him to come and sing a song from the heavy repertoire. He then opted for “Run to the Hills” by Iron Maiden but took the interpretation a bit further, performing brilliantly. The singer also told us that it was something he had wanted to do for a long time. We know the rest: a crazy crowd of 10,000 people singing with him in mid-June on the plain of the biggest metal festival in Belgium, and since then, numerous concert dates which are sold out one following the other.

It was therefore a great joy for us that he accepted our invitation to come and perform this September 13 in our large Classic 21 studio in front of 300 lucky listeners who experienced a pretty crazy moment.

The show was flawlessly professional and he treated us to a setlist of hits, starting with “Holy Diver” by Dio and then continuing with “Poison” fromAlice Cooper” Smoke on the Water ” de Deep Purple” Run to the Hills, ” le titre de Maiden with which this whole project started, “Easy Livin” byUriah Heepbefore moving on to his original composition “The Darkness”, written especially for his first metal show at Graspop in mid-June.

The title is catchy, we find all the codes of the genre and some well-placed riffs, the recipe works and the audience quickly sings along.
