Several cooperative games like to experiment by bringing a competitive multiplayer mode, such as PvP (Player vs Player) or even PvEvP, if they don’t want to abandon their vision.

However, this idea does not cross the mind of the creative director of Helldivers 2, one of the most popular cooperative games of the moment.

Helldivers 2, like its predecessor, was created as a cooperative experience. Johan Pilestedt, creative director and CEO of Arrowhead Games, spoke to his followers on X (or Twitter, if you prefer) about the game’s success.

Recently, the new game published by Sony broke its record for concurrent players on Steam by registering 203,644 players. Now, daily numbers place Helldivers 2 above Call of Duty, which has led some users to question whether the game will receive a PvP mode.

When responding to a follower, Pilestedt said that Helldivers 2 will never receive a PvP mode to reduce the toxic elements in the community. According to him, the objective is to create a supportive, fun environment where everyone fights on the same side.

Furthermore, the creative director rejected comparisons with Call of Duty, suggesting that the games do not compete for the same audience. Lastly, Pilestedt said the studio will do its best to make Helldivers 2 a lasting experience and a beloved franchise.

Since the release of Helldivers 2, Pilestedt has remained active on Twitter, answering players’ questions and recently explained that he does not believe that the game’s monetization adopts the pay-to-win model.
