Helldivers 2 has once once more increased the server capacity due to the ongoing rush of players. However, CEO Johan Pilestedt might not promise that all login problems would be resolved.
Helldivers 2 is currently the game of the hour: Just last night from Friday to Saturday, the shooter from the Arrowhead development studio was able to set a new all-time record with more than 458,000 simultaneous Steam players (via SteamDB). So it’s no wonder that the servers can’t withstand this load. Arrowhead Studios is trying to address the problem with increased capacity: The recent patch for Helldivers 2 increased the CCU (Concurrent Users) limit from 450,000 to 700,000 players.
As Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt initially explained on Twitter/X, this should allow “every player to get past the log-in screen.” The tweet was probably sent out in a mixture of joy and lack of sleep, because Pilestedt backtracked slightly shortly following the post was published at 2 a.m. The now deleted tweet (still via Helldivers-Subreddit visible) was not entirely correct. The server limit has actually been increased to the numbers mentioned, but Arrowhead expects that these limits will also be broken in the next few days.
Accordingly, there is no guarantee that every player can access the Helldivers 2 servers, but at least the waiting times should be much more bearable. In addition, further final improvements are expected to be made this Saturday, which will benefit the situation beyond the weekend. However, Pilestedt did not say what measures would continue to be taken – hopefully the Arrowhead CEO was able to get some well-deserved sleep.
