The top-down shooter subgenre has become a relic of the past as the new generation of games seeks to create realistic worlds to captivate players. However, games like Hotline Miami have garnered critical acclaim for breathing new life into a genre that some might consider dated.
Strelka Games & Yonder will follow suit when its first title, Hell is Others, is released later this year. Hell is Others is a David Lynch-infused top-down multiplayer survival shooter in which players take on the role of Adam Smithson.
Accompanied by the sounds of his gramophone repeating the same songs, Adam does his best to stay home and take care of his plants, as he is afraid to leave his apartment. One day, Adam wakes up to discover that he has added a new plant to his collection, a bonsai tree that feeds on blood and forces him to leave his house in search of answers.
The development team has released a new trailer showing gameplay snippets revealing that the game will be released on October 20 and that the closed beta is set for September 2.
The trailer for the release date of Hell is Others It shows more of the game’s unique art style and gameplay direction. The pixelated streets of Century City are full of danger with dark creatures that roam the streets and will try to end Adam’s night.
The gameplay will look to mix fast-paced and frenetic top-down action, as players will have access to a variety of weapons to fend off the creatures of the night when Hell is Others launches later this year.
Hell is Others, from Strelka Games and Yonder, is shaping up to be a promising twist on the top-down genre, and following being in the works for quite some time, release is fast approaching.
