Heliopolis terminates its contract with Mohamed El Shorbagy

Heliopolis Club announced the termination of his contract with squash player Mohamed El Shorbagy, ranked third in the world, following he switched to representing England instead of Egypt.

Al-Shorbagy, 31, announced today, Monday, that he will represent England in the coming period, following years of playing on behalf of Egypt.

Heliopolis Club issued an official statement in which it said: “In light of what was circulated and published on the various sports pages and websites by the club’s squash player Mohamed El Shorbagy regarding playing the upcoming tournaments on behalf of the State of England, the Board of Directors decided to terminate the player’s contract with the Federation addressing the club to preserve the club’s right.” .

It is noteworthy that Al-Shorbagy, who has resided in the English city of Bristol since 2006, had previously applied for British citizenship, and his application had recently been approved.

The first shorbagy tournament under the flag of England is scheduled to be the Mauritius Open, which will be held from 7-11 June, followed by the British National Squash Championship in Manchester between 14-18 of the same month.

While El Shorbagy’s last tournament as an Egyptian player was the El Gouna Open Championship, which ended a few days ago.
