The holidaymaker started from the parking lot in Weißenbach am Attersee and followed the hiking trail to the Großer Schoberstein. The 31-year-old got off the path during a striking crossing at 900 meters above sea level. He was distracted and didn’t notice the change in direction, police said.
The man tried to get to the summit cross through rocky terrain. But following 50 meters in altitude he mightn’t go any further. He wanted to turn around, but kept losing his footing, so he made an emergency call. The Steinbach mountain rescue service and an alpine police officer called in the police helicopter. He rescued the Dutchman around 3:15 p.m. below the Kleiner Schoberstein. The man was brought to the valley with the help of a rope. He was uninjured, police said.
