Helicopter Crash in Montérégie: No Injuries, Power Outage

A helicopter crashed Tuesday evening in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, in Montérégie.

The crash occurred in a field between Highway 35 and Chemin de la Grande Ligne, in the territory of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, on the edge of that of Carignan.

The QMI Agency was able to note that several police officers and firefighters were working at the scene of the crash in the evening, while the Grande Ligne road was blocked to traffic.

Despite the damage suffered by the aircraft which overturned on its side following crashing, no one was injured during this incident, Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu police said.

For its part, Hydro-Québec confirmed that the helicopter hit wires when it crashed, causing an outage that affected some 200 homes.

“Our teams are on their way to assess the situation,” said a spokesperson for the state-owned company, Mélanie Destrempes, adding that the recovery time will depend on the severity of the damage.
