The news that the former jungle camper Helena Fürst was admitted was a shock to many. But what happened?
On the evening of June 24, a police operation is said to have taken place in an apartment building in Frankfurt. As RTL reported, Fürst had triggered the operation. She accused a neighbor of cutting cables in an electrical box.
The forces are said to have found the former jungle camper in a “mentally confused” state. The result was that following an examination by a medical officer, Fürst was admitted to a closed psychiatric ward. From this she reported already, complained that her room like “a toilet” stinks. Now, following a few days of radio silence, she is once more giving dramatic insights into her current situation.
“Worse than in prison”
RTL phoned Fürst, who was still in the psychiatric ward. “I was beaten and abused several times, tied to the bed and given medication compulsively,” claims the 47-year-old in an interview with the Cologne TV station. “I’m locked in here, worse than in a prison.”
The former “The Summer House of the Stars” participant raises serious allegations. She was deliberately misdiagnosed in order to extend her stay, the hygienic conditions in her room were bad and in general she was “fear of death,” as she says. Fürst: “People shouldn’t be kept like that, not even in a psychiatric ward!”
Clinic denies allegations
The psychiatric department at the Frankfurt University Hospital rejects the allegations when asked by RTL, but cannot go into too much detail because of medical confidentiality.
Nevertheless, Fürst’s allegations are countered in a statement: “Regardless of a specific patient case, we can tell you the following: If patients are admitted to psychiatric treatment without consent, this is usually done by the emergency doctor treating them and the police who have been called in.” press secretary.
And further: “The decision on accommodation once morest the will of the patient is made in accordance with Psych-KHG (Mental Health Assistance Act) by a judge on duty.”
